Education, work, family!  Ever since I could remember I’ve always been into sports and being active. When I was a young girl I always wanted to do what the boys were doing. I never had time for dolls. I’d much rather skateboard or play basketball. Iv’e always liked helping people and I knew I wanted to do something amazing and meaningful with my life but I didn’t know what. So after high school I joined Katimavik and travelled around Canada volunteering. It wasn’t until I got back that I decided to finally go to College. Education, work, family!  My family means the world to me. I do not know where I would be without them! I would prefer spending a night in with my family playing board games as opposed to going out sometimes. They make me who I am and I am truly blessed to call them mine. With respect to education, I can talk about this for days! I am currently in my final year of Teacher Education but I am not stopping here as I want to pursue my Master’s and eventually be a part of/create a global literacy program. I feel that our students need experiences that connect them to the global nation through meaningful learning contexts which are relevant to their everyday lives. I find that school should be a place where students are itching to learn concepts which they can apply and make a difference with, as opposed to sit and regurg...

What is Love? What is not?

Image
I LOVE YOU... Love is a major purpose for living. The connection with love is inherent in all that we do, and without it, we cannot survive as a species. But what is love? How do we know when we are in Love? On this Valentines Day I want you to reflect on your loving relationships. Over the years I have come to understand what love is. How you ask? By figuring out what LOVE ISN'T! Sometimes.. Love is like a trainer... you may get your perfect match right away; or you have to trial other ones. Much like love... you may have to date a few bad ones to find the right one... and you know, they may have been there all along and you just didn't open your eyes to realize! LOVE IS NOT : Manipulation . How many times have you heard: "If you loved me, then you would..." If you love someone, you do it because you want to, instead of someone telling you to. Compromising Who You Are : Love is not apparent if someone asks you to do or say something that isn't in your nature. Som...

10 Things You Should Know about Using Essential Oils

Image
Essential oils are not oils. They do not contain the fatty acids that constitute what we would consider an actual oil. They are absorbed well by the skin – making them perfect ingredients in personal care items aiding to heal, soften, and nourish. However, they do not accumulate in the body over time. The are like water soluble vitamins, they simply offer up their healing properties and then pass on through.  Fragrance oils and essential oils are NOT the same thing. If you see the word “fragrance” or “fragrance oil” or “perfume", you can assume this is synthetic and NOT natural. Essential oils are natural and cannot be patented. You’ll never see an essential oil in a pharmaceutical drug. Hence, you can see why a vast majority of mainstream healthcare practitioners never recommend essential oils as therapeutic alternatives to drugs. Because essential oils cannot be patented, drug companies will not waste money studying them. This limits our scientific knowledge o...

Transformation Story with Allison Miller

Image
At the start of my weight loss journey I was very overweight and decided it was time for a change. I had no energy so I spent a lot of time time watching tv or playing on the computer. I didn't have many friends, I was shy around people I didn't know so I kept to myself. I was unhappy and embarrassed about I how I looked so I wore baggy clothes and nothing remotely revealing or feminine. I started going to the gym and was intimidated at first until I learned how to use the equipment.  I learned what eating healthy was all about and how to improve my eating habits. I stopped going to fast food restaurants and chose healthier options where I could. After a while things got easier as they became routine. I gained a lot of self-esteem over the years and improved my will power.  I became comfortable with who I was and learned to socialize more. I am not self-conscious about how I look anymore and my choice of clothing has completely changed. I can now wear form-fitting cloth...
