What is Love? What is not?
I LOVE YOU...
Love is a major purpose for living. The connection with love is inherent in all that we do, and without it, we cannot survive as a species.
But what is love? How do we know when we are in Love? On this Valentines Day I want you to reflect on your loving relationships. Over the years I have come to understand what love is. How you ask? By figuring out what LOVE ISN'T! Sometimes.. Love is like a trainer... you may get your perfect match right away; or you have to trial other ones. Much like love... you may have to date a few bad ones to find the right one... and you know, they may have been there all along and you just didn't open your eyes to realize!
LOVE IS NOT:
Manipulation. How many times have you heard: "If you loved me, then you would..." If you love someone, you do it because you want to, instead of someone telling you to.
Compromising Who You Are: Love is not apparent if someone asks you to do or say something that isn't in your nature. Someone who is in love with you will never ask you to change who you are in order to be loved.
Violence: Physical or emotional violence isn't true love.
Just lust: Yes, chemistry and physical attraction are important, but true love also includes commitment, trust and respect.
SO WHAT IS LOVE?
Caring: This may come in forms of passion, affection for family and friends, desire and interest in their partners well being.
Attractive: Attraction and chemistry form the bond that allows people to mate. Simple, this is a necessity for Love!
Attached: Attachment is love that appears for a long period of time. How do you know you found it? When you can honestly say: "I've seen the worst and the best you have to offer, and I still love you," while your partner feels the same way.
Committed: commitment is more than just monogamy. Its the knowledge that your partner cares for you and has your back, no matter what the circumstances.
Intimate: Intimacy is a crucial component of all relationships. In order to know another, you need to share parts of yourself that no other person can experience.
