Post Competition Interview: Kat Small Mejias
What steps did you have to do to your body ready for stage? To get my body ready for stage, I did exactly what Jill told me to do. Follow my eating plan and do my workouts. It was challenging at times since I was traveling lots during my prep. I had to google the nearest grocery stores and always ask for an extra fridge in my hotel room. In April I was away from home 24 days of the month. My job kept me moving around the states and changing hotel rooms every 3 days. The most important thing that I had to do to get stage ready was stay dedicated and plan ahead.
What was your goal for the competition? My main goal for the competition was to be in the best shape of my life and prove to myself that no matter how much traveling and client dinners I had I could still stick to the plan.
How did you feel during your prep for stage? The whole stage prep was an amazing journey that thought me so much about myself and what I am truly capable of. I do not think anyone can truly understand it unless they go through it. I did not really feel like I was sacrificing anything, I felt more empowered than anything else. There were times when I was doubting myself, and wondered if I was going to be stage ready. Jill reassured me, I got through it and all of it made me a stronger person mentally as well as physically.
What was your least favorite part of the prep? The least favorite part of the whole prep was the last 2 days of prep when I had to limit my water intake. Take food away from me and I am fine... take water away and I am miserable. Lucky for me my husband was a great support and got me through it all.
Did you have a moment of weakness? If so, when and why? Oh yes my moment of weakness. I think it was around week 5 when 1tbls of almond butter turned into 5 or 6 tlbs. Haha! I just could not help it, it tasted so delicious, and with each spoon I thought ok one more. I felt horrible about it and confessed to Jill. She set me straight and I was back on track the next day. OH I love Almond Butter.
What was the best thing about your journey to the stage? The best thing about my journey to the stage was the whole journey to the stage! Every step I made was one step closer to my goal. I love to set up challenges for myself because I truly enjoy the journey and process. Every step I took was so empowering and seeing my progress each week was great.
What was your favorite food? Everyone who knows me knows I love my key lime pie. Although during the prep I have to admit I was dreaming of almond butter. Yummy!!
What was your least Favorite food? I did not have a least favorite food. I ate pretty clean before so it was not a big change.
Tell us about your suit choice & the experience. I was so excited to pick my suit and since it was my first time on stage I did not know what to expect. Colleen was so helpful and took the time to help me. She made a perfect suit just for me!
On the day, what did it feel like getting ready, and stepping on stage? The day of the show I felt amazing! My husband was with me and he was catering to my every need. Who does not like that! Haha! As the show approached I was getting more and more nervous. But it's all part of it and it's what I love most. It's that fine line where you might screw up! I had an amazing support group that helped and was always there! I felt like a queen!
Did you feel prepared and ready physically & mentally? I know In my heart that I gave my 100%. I did everything I had to and was really happy with my results. The only thing was that I felt so nervous, my posing could have been better.
Was it everything you expected? It was so much more than I had expected. I learned so much about myself. I really do have determination and can do anything I set my mind to do. As long as you take a step forward every day you will one day reach the destination and goal you set out to.
How did it feel to be apart of Team Bunny & have Jill Bunny as your coach? Being part of Team Bunny is amazing. If I had any questions there was always someone to answer me. Jill has created something truly amazing with Team Bunny. She helps women achieve their dreams and empower them to believe in themselves. Being part of a team is such a wonderful feeling. I am so thankful to have met Jill for if she only knew how much she has had an impact on my life, my self esteem and showing me that if I want it I can achieve it, all I have to do is do it! She is an excellent coach and understands exactly what we all are going through. She is a gift.
When you were finished your competition, what did you do to celebrate? When I finished the competition I went out to celebrate with my friends. Enjoyed wine and of course key lime pie!! I also had mixed feeling. Of course I was so happy and proud of myself for completing my goal, yet at the same time I felt sad. It was something I had worked towards for a while and now it was over just like that. I loved the prep and the experience so much. I can't wait to do it again. Now I have to set new goals for myself and start a new journey. Maybe another competition??? Perhaps:)
Anything that you want to add about the whole experience? This whole experience was honestly one of the best ones in my life. I have never ever felt so proud of myself. I completed something knowing I did excellent. I also made new friends along the way. Now I can step forward knowing I can do anything! Thanks Jill for helping me !!
