Tell us about yourself! Education, work, family! My family means the world to me. I do not know where I would be without them! I would prefer spending a night in with my family playing board games as opposed to going out sometimes. They make me who I am and I am truly blessed to call them mine. With respect to education, I can talk about this for days! I am currently in my final year of Teacher Education but I am not stopping here as I want to pursue my Master’s and eventually be a part of/create a global literacy program. I feel that our students need experiences that connect them to the global nation through meaningful learning contexts which are relevant to their everyday lives. I find that school should be a place where students are itching to learn concepts which they can apply and make a difference with, as opposed to sit and regurgitate information which will be forgotten after a test. I love to learn and my passion for education influences me to continually expand my knowledge and apply myself to new experiences.
What do you like to do outside of the gym & regimented eating? You mean there is life outside of a gym…? I love spending time with my friends and family and just staying active. From rock climbing, to mountain biking, I like staying busy with people who are all about a good time…and I like going to the gym!
What made you get into the fitness industry & competition? Is this your first competition?
I was in need of a change and challenge; I’ve lost sight of who I was and I didn’t like the person I’ve become. I let different experiences in life define me and I was defeated. I always loved being active and lifting weights which eventually led me to look into bodybuilding. The idea of involving myself in a lifestyle which requires strict discipline emotionally, physically, and mentally seemed like the perfect for what I needed! This will be my first competition and I cannot wait to grace that stage with a smile symbolizing hard work, love, dedication, and above all, happiness. On this path of change I’ve discovered self-love which has been most rewarding and continues to grow as I continue to work to become who I want to be.
Who inspires you in the fitness industry? Anyone who commits to themselves for the purpose of self-betterment and are passionate about what they are doing. Someone like Jill Bunny, for example, who continues to not only work for herself, but for others as well, in a manner which promotes health and fitness in a positive manner.
What is your cheat meal? If Bunny allows you one! I’m obsessed with protein blueberry pancakes. Obsessed.
What is your favorite body part to workout? Glutes and hamstrings! I LOVE leg day!
Why have you chosen to be apart of Team Bunny? The idea of being a part of a community with women inspiring women spoke volumes to me. I love connecting and networking so to be a part of a team which extends to women of different stories but similar goals seemed like the perfect for me – and it definitely has been thus far!
What do you enjoy most about Team Bunny? I love being connected to a group of women (most of whom I’ve never met if I may add) by the desire of self-improvement. It’s not about the attention, the wins, the materials, or the labels, but being there for one another while we walk our paths of becoming strong (mentally and physically) women.
What are your personal goals in the fitness industry & competitions? As I am new to the world of competing, my goal is to not fall on stage for my first show! On a more serious note, my personal goal is to find a balance between health and fitness in order love myself wholly and to promote this love to others. I find that we’ve become so wrapped up in the world of “you should’s” or matching ourselves to people on social media that we forget about ourselves and what makes us happy. As a result, we’re caught in a cycle of disappointments and constantly competing to be better than the next person. If I could be a healthy image of self-love to show my future students as well as those around me that pure happiness is not only a wonderful feeling, but attainable for all, perhaps then we can break down the negativity that floods our lives and truly start to make this world a better place by improving our mind frames and intentions.
I am so so so so unbelievably proud of my fellow SolidSista!!!!!! You continue to inspire me daily and I cannot wait to cheer you on while you achieve your goals in both this competition and in your life as well.
